The Filipino Fiesta commemorates June 12, 1898, a significant historical event of Philippine history. On this day, Filipinos declared its independence from Spain after more than three hundred years of oppressive rule. Secondly, Filipino Fiesta brings us together to celebrate and promote our rich cultural heritage and contributions that Filipinos have made in the United States. And thirdly, we utilize this event to develop understanding and relationships with other groups in the broader community, all of which make this celebration of integral importance.

The vision of this celebration is to gather as many Filipino organizations and individuals to work together as a community. As each year passes we reinforce this vision as more members of the community support the Filipino Fiesta. The Filipino Fiesta is a culmination of years of hard work and effort that highlights our beautiful Filipino culture and traditions. This event is the ultimate illustration of Filipino Community.

This year, the Filipino Fiesta will be held on June 6, 2004 between 10am and 5pm at the Jose P. Rizal Center on 7320 Florin Mall Dr in Sacramento. The day will begin with a parade that showcases over 20 different cultural and community organizations. Prizes will be awarded for various categories. The theme this year “Celebrate Filipino Women,“ will focus and highlight the accomplishments and achievements of Filipino women throughout the community. The honorees will be recognized at the opening ceremony, immediately following the parade. There will be live cultural performances throughout the day, health screening, food, vendors, Pinoy Hot Rod Car Show and activities for kids of all ages as well as senior activities. The event is open to the public and admission is free. For more info please contact Dick Mazon at (916) 835-8387.
